I can hardly believe that we are to the end of June and that next week is the end of the block!

So it is time to prepare for the post test - remember that the post test is a progress test.

One of the very best practices  you can have is Reviewing

Reviewing is not trying to learn something new in the next few days or hours - it is simply the skill of remembering what you have been learning in the recent past.  Please Please  Please   go back over the skills you have worked with this block, both individually and as a class.  The beautiful thing about the blog is that you can go back to any of our old posts to access the links that I gave you.  I also encourage you to go back over all paper practice that we have done.

Another great practice is to make sure your physical self is as prepared as possible
Get a good night sleep
Eat a good breakfast
These things sound simple but they really do help you do your best.

Test anxiety can be a big hurdle to get over for some students.  I am linking you to a couple of sites to help with this.

Word Problems - I know you are SUPER excited to work with these but you know what they say about practice :)

Word problems practice

1.  Five times a number decreased by two equals eighteen.

2.  When twice a number is increased by one, the result is thirteen

3.  Ten more than six times a number equals thirty-four.

4.  Sam and Joe are house painters.  Sam makes $5 an hour less than Joe.  On a job that took them both 40 hours to complete, they made $1400.  How much does Sam make in one hour?

5.  Kate makes $320 more each month than her husband Tim.  Together they make $2840 each month.  How much does Kate make in a month?

Bring your answers to class !!!!!!!!

You are doing great with this Algebra stuff - learning the power of opposites is really helpful when it comes to solving equations.  We worked on simplifying and solving today in class - all the problems we did as examples kept the variable on one side of the equal sign.  I am going to include a few problems to practice that I want you to bring with you on Thursday and we will go over our answers together.

3x + 4x -5 = 26

6s - 2 + 2s - 8 = 70

15 = 4x + x

8p + 2(p + 11) - 12 = 70

Ok - so now what do we do if there are variables on both sides of the equal sign -

I know that you have looked at  this cool math lesson but I want you to really look at it to help you with this next link

practice solving equations

This link gives you 20 questions to practice.  Print out or copy and work on these for Thursday - we will go over any that you have questions about in class.

For some of you Algebra is totally new and a little bit intimidating - for some of you this is a review of something you learned a while ago.  Either way working with Algebra doesn't have to be such a bad thing :)  I am linking you to a couple of sites to keep working with equations.  On the homework sheet I sent home .  On the top part - You are going to simplify the expression by combining the like terms - ie combine all variable and all numbers -  the following links will help with both parts

Bring your worksheet with you to class on Tuesday - along with any questions that you have!
I hope you have a great weekend.
