1.  Five times a number decreased by two equals eighteen.

2.  When twice a number is increased by one, the result is thirteen

3.  Ten more than six times a number equals thirty-four.

4.  Sam and Joe are house painters.  Sam makes $5 an hour less than Joe.  On a job that took them both 40 hours to complete, they made $1400.  How much does Sam make in one hour?

5.  Kate makes $320 more each month than her husband Tim.  Together they make $2840 each month.  How much does Kate make in a month?
